Prepare to enter the wild and wooly world of an adult with Aspergers Syndrome, a form of autism characterized by intellignce, quirks, social difficulties and downright strange and oddish behaviours.

People with Aspergers generally are high functioning in everyday life but have great difficulty connecting with others due to the inability to read faces, body language and subtle verbal clues. They also tend to take words literally and have a hard time multi-tasking.

Oversensitivity to touch (clothing has to be soft and often the tags removed), light (do not leave home without the sunglasses), sound (loud noises and noisey places are avoided), taste (many Aspies have quite a limited diet and are frequently very picky eaters) and smells makes the everyday existence more of a challenge.

Fasten your seatbelts and come on in...

I'm happy

I've decided that tomorrow we will get Pokémon Go so that my son and I can get outside and do something fun together. Looking forward to it and I know he will love it.
Having a cleaning lady is marvelous especially when bed bound, but it's not exactly optimal for kids to not learn housecleaning. Today, my son and I cleaned the living room together! I showed him each and every aspect And we did them together. Sharing vacuuming and dusting made the job much less tedious. My guy is really hungry to learn and do more things. He let's me know when I need to be more specific or repeat my directions or actions. He thrives on accomplishing new tasks. One room of the apartment at a time. He's already become a pro at helping with laundry. His daily chores are feeding and watering puppy, emptying and filling the dishwasher and he's learning to pick up after himself. I'm very proud of him. No longer does he balk when we go on our daily puppy walks around the big block. He takes her out solo at least twice a day. We had fun together today, just enjoying each others company.
We stopped for a couple appointments. One place I picked up our new food stamp card. There was a weirdy technical snafu though. We couldn't get our benefits onto the card because my son's name was too long and the tech guy didn't get around to fixing it. Seriously, what an odd thing to happen. My worker called and apologized up and down rather frantically. I told her we would manage till Tuesday. I really like this worker. Maybe it's because we share the same name or maybe because it's the first time I've heard caring concern in someone's voice. Haven't heard that since last therapy session.
So much more to do...new driver license, finding therapists for the two of us, school next week, want to write a few change of address letters to friends, another call to social security after the holiday, etc.
It's all good. I'm happy. The weather is perfect. My son is smiling more and my puppy is sleeping beside me. Life is very very good to me. Thanks Mary
